Our company Brueggen was founded in the year 1868 as a buckwheat mill. In the following decades the production of grits, pearl barley, and oats was undertaken. In the 60's we were the first German company which started the production of Cornflakes. This was the start to transfer Brueggen from a milling company to a modern foodstuff manufacturer.
With the production of Muesli and Cereal Bars we completed our range in the following two decades, and by 1989, just in time for German reunification, we opened our second factory in Luebeck, that is today dedicated for the production of cereals.
A t Brueggen, quality begins way before production.
All raw materials are checked for suitability in our company laboratory. Only then will we allow clearance for further processing.
Multistage quality inspection throughout the entire manufacturing process enables a broad product quality. In addition to extensive inspections in our own company, we also assign independent external laboratories for further analysis.
A high degree of transparency in the organisation is of decisive importance to a food company. That is why Brueggen has been operating a quality management system according to DIN EN ISO 9001 since 1997.
Additionally, our measures of warranty for food safety for Brueggen products have successfully undergone examinations according to the Danish HACCP standards DS 3027 in the year
2000. At the same time Brueggen have fulfilled the requirements resulting from the "BRC technical
standard for companies supplying retailer branded food products".
Brueggen is one of the biggest German and European manufacturers of cereal, muesli and mueslibars. Not only muesli and cereal are included in our extensive range, but also classics, such as grain flakes, grits, and pearl barley.
Nutrition:
The main ingredients of our food are proteins, carbohydrates (sugar, starch) and fats. Proteins are the basic module of living organisms and supporter of all living processes. Within 80 days the entire human body protein is exchanged. This constant consumption has to be replaced with new protein through your food. Rough estimates state that our body contains 50 000 different proteins. Proteins exist in all our body cells.
Carbohydrates are on a quantity basis the most important nutrient in our bodies. Carbohydrates are the basic module for the formation of protein and fat cells. Apart from that they supply the human body with energy for the metabolism, to maintain body temperature and other functions. You will find carbohydrates mainly in the musculature and in the liver.
Fats have two main tasks in the human body. Firstly structural components for the membrane of a cell are won through it, and secondly, due to their high energy content fats supply energy to the human body for metabolism, body temperature and further functions. Fats occur in the human body as a heat insulator, shelter against muscular injuries and as an energy repository.
A well-balanced nutritional diet for a healthy human body should contain 85 to 105 grams protein, 300 to 350 grams carbohydrates and 50 to 80 grams of fat on a daily basis.
The energy value of protein and carbohydrates are respectively 17 KJ (4 kcal) and fat is 37 KJ (9 kcal) per gram. The suggested percentage allocation of these main substances based on the total energy intake is approximately 10 - 15 % protein energy allotment, 50 - 55 % carbohydrates energy allotment and 30 - 35 % fat energy allotment.
Whatever energy requirements are right for you depends on many different factors. The most important are: Age, gender, height, weight and activity.
